4/20/10-UPDATE:
Maggie was in a foster home for
a few months and is now with us
at CGRR. We decided to bring
her here so we could get to know
her and perhaps make it easier
for folks to see her. Maggie
is such a sweet girl, and she is
another one that was adopted
from us about 5 years
ago.....and she was kept mostly
outside in a kennel. We found
out after the fact that the Mom
didn't care for dogs and the Dad
traveled alot with his work, so
Maggie's primary caretaker was
the daughter and when she got
older and out of high school,
she did not have time for Maggie
anymore, so Maggie came back.
We are glad she did, so she
could know the security
of living in a real home. She
did well in her foster home and
they worked with her to make
sure she was loved and part of
their "pack." Layla and her
family also taught Maggie that
there are rules and boundaries.
Maggie is timid in new
situations and when meeting new
people. She wants to trust and
once she does she is a cuddle
bug. She does great with the
other dogs.......she and Quinn
are buds! Maggie would do well
either with another dog or by
herself. She deserves a home
where she can feel safe and
loved. She is looking for
someone to bond with, someone
that will "lead" her and help
her be the best she can be!
Maggie is a
very young 7 year old female
with lots of energy and
personality. Maggie loves
kids, loves to run and play, and
NEEDS a home with people who
will walk her, exercise her, and
teach her manners. Maggie
came to us struggling with house
training. She is doing
much better now but still needs
regular trips outside to remind
her that the house is
"potty free". She
is a quick learner and masters
the rules, but she likes to test
boundaries to see if they ALWAYS
pertain, so a strong pack-leader
is a must. Maggie has lots
of energy and spunk. She
is feisty but kind and will be
very sweet with children and
other dogs. She loves to
play and while she doesn't know
how to fetch yet, she will run
after the ball and play with it
for extended periods. Maggie
does get bored and chew on
things, but lots of exercise
will dampen that urge in her.
She loves to go for walks
and would probably do best in a
home with other dogs who will
wrestle with her or with people
who will take her jogging,
hiking, biking, and walking on a
regular basis. She would
make a GREAT triathlon training
partner! Maggie didn't
learn many manners at her last
home and so she tends to steal
food, sneak into the garbage,
scrounge, and beg for table
scraps. She has learned
that this is inappropriate and
that human food isn't good for
her doggy belly but since she
developed the taste she needs
lots of supervision and
reminders. Maggie has been
"forced" to do things
in the past, so a gentle and
patient hand will remind her
that she can be good without
fighting it. She's a very
sweet dog who is aging very well
and has many, many more years of
service, love, and affection to
give. She's a sunshine
girl and will make a GREAT
playmate for an active family.
She is doing well in a
foster home with two other
goldens and would do great in a
home with or without dogs.
