5/2/10-UPDATE: Zena is
now in a foster home, and doing
great! Here is what her foster
Mom has to say about Zena:
Zena has been in our home as a
foster for the past month or so
and is doing so well! We enjoy
having her happy and friendly
personality in our home and find
that she rarely trots around
without a smile on her very
unique looking face. Zena is
much prettier in person than her
pictures lend. She has a lovely
coat and a very sweet face with
gentle eyes. She is a good-sized
muscular dog. Zena is still a
puppy in so many ways, so don't
leave any children's toys or
stuffed animals lying around but
your shoes are safe. Being young
makes her lots of fun to play
with and means that she is
always up for something new! She
loves to play with her dog toys
and spends each morning after
breakfast playing with her toys
and her foster sister. She loves
meeting new people and is very
friendly. She often needs to be
reminded to settle down but she
doesn't jump up and she isn't
rough or rude. She's just happy
to make new acquaintances! Zena
is fully house trained and asks
to go outside when she needs to.
She likes to play outside, but
only for short stints because
she prefers her people. She does
well with other dogs and is
always anxious to meet them and
find out what they are about.
She can be pushy, but she seems
to settle down if they are calm
in the process. Zena lives with
two other dogs and respects
their space while playing with
them and just generally being a
good sister. While Zena does
have a lot of energy, she calms
down easily and will settle in
to do her job as a foot warmer
if that's what her family needs.
She is sensitive to her family's
needs and won't tear your home
apart or ruin your flower beds
if she isn't walked every day.
As long as she gets lots of
pets, consistent reminders about
the rules, and her necessities
met, she'll make any family a
GREAT dog. She does well with
children, other dogs, birds, and
probably anything as long as she
knows the boundaries and rules.
She just needs consistent love,
time with her people, and
security. Zena will be a great
addition to any home.
Zena is a very sweet
girl, about 3 years old. When we first
met Zena, we thought she may be a
Golden/Chessie mix.....but when we
took her to be beautified, the groomer
told us she has the snout and jaw of a
Sharpei.........so Zena is our mystery
mix! She has beautiful brown eyes and
a very soft coat. Whatever she is, she
has a wonderful demeanor. She wags her
whole rear end when you walk up to her
- it's like you are the greatest thing
ever! She is very social with other
dogs, but she does the dominant thing
of putting her head over their back
when she first meets them. We feel she
may not have been properly socialized
as a pup, and does not know how to
properly greet. We have never seen her
growl, or get cranky - she just is a
little dominant at first when
greeting, then she wants to
play..........and boy does she play!
Zena is not a little princess dog, she
wrestles and plays with the best of
the boys! This is another dog that no
one has done anything with. She did
not know "sit" or any commands. She
has not had any accidents in her
kennel area, and has been a quiet
girl, who caught on to our routine
very well. Zena definitely needs
someone who will do some basic
training with her, and keep her
socialized. She is kind of like a
puppy, who needs to learn that there
are rules and boundaries. We would
love Zena to have a home where she is
considered part of the family -
inside. She will be a great friend and
companion for that person willing to
put some time and effort into her. Contact
